The Problem

The existing heating system was based on an outdated one-pipe arrangement which no longer provided the level of performance, flexibility and control required by the community centre.

The client required:

• Removal of the existing floor-standing boiler
• Replacement of the one-pipe system with a modern two-pipe system
• Improved zoning capabilities
• Better temperature control across different areas of the building
• Additional heating provision in spaces where no heat source previously existed.

The project also included modifications within the women’s toilet area, where a replacement corner basin was needed to create space for the installation of a new radiator.

The Solution

CBFM designed and installed a completely new heating system that would improve efficiency, reliability, and usability across the entire building.

The works included:

New Heating Infrastructure

• Removal of existing one-pipe heating system
• Removal of existing floor-standing boiler
• Installation of 2 x 60kW Ideal Evomax boilers in cascade arrangement
• Installation of a new low-loss header
• New pressurisation unit

Improved Zoning and Controls

The building was divided into two independent heating zones, allowing separate control of the left and right sides of the property.

To support this, CBFM installed:

• Two circulating pumps
• Two zone valves
• Modern heating controls

This provides greater flexibility and allows heating to be managed more effectively according to occupancy and building usage.

Additional Heating Improvements

The project also included:

• 10 Biddle fan coil units
• Five radiators
• 1 Myson high-level heater
• New radiator installation within the women’s toilet
• Plumbing alterations and basin replacement to accommodate the new layout
